Best Movies To Show During A Long Procedure

Not many people are thrilled about going to the dentist’s office, but most people understand that they need to make the trip if they want to keep their teeth from looking like something out of a horror movie. And speaking of movies, what are some of the best to show during a long procedure? And I don’t just mean a cleaning. I mean like one of the times you get to bust out that drill, and watch the patient’s eyes get huge. For a short procedure you can throw on almost anything, but for longer visits you need something that will take up the entire visit, and keep the patient distracted. Here are a few to think about.

The Lord of the Rings

Take your pick. If your patient has already seen them, then let them pick whichever of the three they want. If not, start at the beginning. Each of these movies is like three hours long, so time isn’t an issue. Also, it’s a trilogy, so, you know, you’re prepared for any follow up appointments. Just pop in the next one in the series and go to work.

The Godfather

A classic tale that has it all—love, betrayal, murder, revenge, and Al Pacino before he started overacting everything. It’s a must see, and it’s pretty darn long, so you might be finishing up your work during one of the best endings in film. Not a bad association for your patient to be making while they sit in the chair.

Titanic

Again, another long, classic movie, although with less murdering and more nude portraiture than the first two on this list. Spoiler—the boat sinks. Still, there’s a lot to talk about with this one. After the procedure you and your patient can have a spirited debate about whether or not Rose had room on that door for Jack. (She totally did.)

The Shawshank Redemption

A man wrongly convicted of murder. Morgan Freeman. That’s pretty much all you need to know if you somehow haven’t seen this movie. Instant classic based on the story by Stephen King. And no, it isn’t a horror movie. Just a movie about a man, a tunnel, and stone that has no earthly business being where it is. Enjoy.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Is your patient an older guy who looks like he might be into Westerns? Hit play and watch him zone out for the duration of the movie. One of the classic spaghetti westerns from Sergio Leone, TGBU features Clint Eastwood at his peak doing Clint Eastwood stuff. Can’t go wrong with this one.
